Supported operations
Create or copy a template
- 1
Select New template, or open an existing template and choose Copy.
- 2
Enter the template name, description, and copy name when applicable.
- 3
Save and open Details.
- 4
Confirm the new template is separate from the source.
A separate firm-level template appears in the list.
Maintain template accounts
- 1
Open template Details and select Add account, or Edit an existing account.
- 2
Set code, name, class, type, balance direction, parent, postable status, tax role, report line, segment, and sort order as required.
- 3
Save and verify the hierarchy.
- 4
Use Delete only after reading the impact and confirming no required descendants remain.
The template account tree updates; existing client charts are not changed automatically.
Import or export template JSON
- 1
For import, choose Import JSON and provide the source file.
- 2
Review total, create, update, and invalid row counts in the preview.
- 3
Resolve invalid rows before Confirm import.
- 4
For export, choose Export JSON and save the generated file securely.
A confirmed import updates the template; export produces a reusable JSON copy.
Enable or disable a template
- 1
Open the template detail.
- 2
Select the enable/disable action.
- 3
Read the notice and confirm.
- 4
Verify the status before using the template in a client workspace.
Only active templates with accounts are usable for a client's first chart initialization.
Business rules and fields
- Templates belong to the tax firm, not a client.
- A client's chart is copied only during first initialization and does not follow later template edits automatically.
- Import must be previewed before confirmation.
- Inactive or empty templates cannot initialize a client chart.
States you may see
What happens next
- The firm maintains reusable, version-observable starting charts without rewriting existing client ledgers.
Common problems
The menu, client, or action is missing.
The employee role, client assignment, or current record status does not allow it.
Ask a firm administrator to verify the employee role and client assignment, then reopen the page.
A save or load action fails.
The session may have expired, validation may have failed, or the service is temporarily unavailable.
Refresh once, correct any field-level message, and retry. Keep the request identifier if the page provides one.
